ScienceOnline 2012

The biggest (only?) conference for open scientists, science bloggers, and more is in North Carolina this year, and I’m going! I first heard about it 2 years ago and I’ve wanted to go since then and now I am.

I was actually worried that I wouldn’t make registration. According to my sources (Koch) registration the past few years has filled up quickly, as in within minutes. This year they found a much larger venue and they are staggering registration giving me an opportunity. Registration times varied, but I decided to try to sign up for the one that opened at 6am EST, which means 4am for me.

I made my girlfriend get me up at 3:30am (because that’s when she gets ready for work) and promptly fell back to sleep. I woke up twice between 3:30 and 3:40 and so I decided to take one last snooze. Somehow I actually fell asleep and ended up waking up at 4:15! I was livid! How could I let myself sleep past 4???

I quickly ran to my computer on the off chance that registration was still open. Luckily for my sake, it was! And I registered as quickly as I could so that I could go back to sleep (don’t want to end up waking up completely).

With that said I will be at the best unconference (that’s what they call it) in the world and I will be teching it up with the best! You can follow my exploits on twitter @Thescienceofant, but I’ll remind you when it gets a little bit closer. I’ll see everyone who’ll be there on Jan 19!

Let’s bust science open!
