Trackback Flaws with Twitter, Disqus, and WordPress?

So just checking my notebook stats today and I saw that for some reason I had a major spike in hits. Typically the weekend is dead, but I guess science breaks the boundaries for social media promotion and web surfing traffic.

Typically WordPress Stats don’t reveal too much, but I noticed that I got a large number of visitors from Twitter and most of them ended up on my post of me complaining about the lack of functionality of Google+ Pages and the chaotic organization of Facebook Pages.

Since my site stats only say referrers are coming from Twitter.com I have to go to my notebook page and check the Reactions in Disqus or check the tweet counter (which is part of the WordPress site stats add-on). Both features are supposed to track social media links and commentary about the posts, and in all honesty I have no idea how it works (maybe I can have Alex look into this).

These features seem to work well, but there is a bit of inconsistency sometimes as with most softwares. I’ve noticed that the reported number of tweets through the post don’t match the number of reactions, but usually this is off by just a couple.

Today though, there is a major discrepancy. The post page says there have been 7 tweets regarding this post. Disqus says there are 0 reactions. The interesting thing is that when I go to twitter to see the tweets, I get 0 results. The best part is when I search “research.iheartanthony.com” I find a couple tweets the link directly to that post.

So in short, there is definitely a problem somewhere, I’m just not sure if the problem is on my end or the twitter end. Before I decide there is a problem with Disqus, I’ll wait till tomorrow because I’ve seen reactions get added 24 hours later, so I’ll wait to see if that is the case here. The fact that I can’t even search twitter for the results is troubling even when I know there are tweets (I tweet each post twice, one for each account I have). So to me something is wrong, I’m making note of it now, and I’ll post what I find when I find it.
